Music
Music: As Christ himself came "not to be served, but to serve" (Mark
10:45) so too musicians at worship are servants of the beautiful and
prayerful expression of the Word through the medium of Music.
Musicians play an essential role in the work of God that is the
liturgy. They leave an indelible impression on the minds of all who
take part in the worship of the faith community. Music in the liturgy
is so much a part of the fabric of worship that if it is done well, it
gives a glimpse of the Divine and facilitates the prayer of all
present. If it is poor or inappropriate, it tears the very soul of the
rite, interrupts the prayer, and diverts attention from the mysteries
being celebrated.
Why become a music minister at St. Paul's?
- To promote the assembly's singing and praying at Liturgies.
- To enhance and embellish the assembly's song.
- To grow in individual spirituality.
- To facilitate the opportunity of participating in a larger choir and/or ensemble.
- To be exposed to a variety of musical styles which are appropriate for worship in the Catholic Church.
- To nurture the possibility of becoming a church musician in the future and an increase in the musicianship in the participants themselves.
- To participate in a variety of musical experiences: Sunday, Holy
Day and weekday Eucharistic Liturgies, Undergrad (Alpha-Omega) and
Graduate/Young Professional (Mustard Seed) large groups, the
Advent/Christmas Celebration, memorial Services, weddings and other
special events.
- To become an active member of the St. Paul University Catholic Center faith community. One does this by becoming an active, committed member of one of the choirs and supporting and attending other activities of St. Paul's as best as one is able.
Getting involved is as easy as talking to a choir director after Mass, or contacting them directly.
